My Annual AI Bill, 2025 Edition
If AI is becoming everyday infrastructure like water and electricity, my real 2025 cost was about 3050 USD and more than 2 billion tokens.
If AI is becoming everyday infrastructure, closer to water and electricity than to a normal software subscription, this was my real cost in 2025.
Spending
- ChatGPT: 2400 USD
- Claude: 480 USD
- Google AI Pro: 120 USD
- OpenAI Developer Platform: 50 USD
- Grok is paid indirectly through my X subscription, so I am not counting it here.
Total: about 3050 USD.
Token Usage
- OpenAI Developer Platform: 1.25 billion tokens, mostly for newshacker.me, mainly using
gpt-5-mini. - Codex CLI: 760 million tokens, with a large amount still uncounted, mainly using
gpt-5.2. - Claude Code: not counted.
Total: far above 2 billion tokens.
After 2025, AI is no longer a separate software category for me. It has become personal infrastructure: a persistent layer in my daily workflow, like cloud servers, networking, electricity, and coffee.
